Sleep study

Well,
The sleep study went well. I'm exhausted. I remembered the day after the sleep study that I had made an appointment to donate blood later that day. It's been a LONG week, but Ryan and I are looking forawrd to a nice long weekend up at Green Lake Conference Center for a worship retreat. We're both looking to get refreshed a bit.

Tigers and Cycling

This weekend should be full of relaxation and family and I can't wait. It seems that Ryan and I have been busier than I can recently remember being, and that the long weekend will be good for both of us. Here's a quick recap of what's been going on, and what the plans are for the weekend.
1) Ryan resigned at Oscar's (job #2), about a month ago. We were a bit nervous about our financial situation with him resigning, but decided that him being about to rest, and recoup and us being able to spend quality time together were WAY more important than the extra job. After praying about it, we felt like that's the route we were supposed to go, and neither of us have regretted it. We've been able to see God provide for us over and over again in unusual ways, and it's been kind of fun. Also, having my husband around more is quite a blessing.
2) In an attempt to avoid the rising gas prices and save some money, we've both started cycling to work. I bought Ryan an early birthday present (a $20 USED road-bike) with the hopes of being able to fix it up piece by piece. Well, it looks like it's going to need a bit more fix-up than I thought. The tires were so old that they popped on our first ride. I worked on my Dad's old bike for a bit, and got it up and working, and it seems to be riding great for Ryan for now. It's not the "sexy road-bike" but it seems to be working fairly well for him. He's shaven like ten minutes off of his commute already, and is looking good. I've been cycling to work as well, and have finally found a route that works fairly well. There's only a stretch of about 15 blocks that I really don't like, and that's because it's close to work and pretty inter-city. The majority of random honks come in this area, and I'm pretty sure that most of those drivers don't have licenses. But, I've found a pretty good route now which has cut out most of the rough portion of the commute. I think that the most fun that I've had so far is riding home in a torential downpour. I thought that it was going to be horrible, but it actually was like playing soccer in the rain. A bit rough at first, and then a total blast!
3) We're headed to Holland this weekend, which should be fun. We're planning on cycling out to see Dave, Ceci and the girlie girls, and we're also going to help put up my parent's flag pole, that has been laying on the ground since they moved in. Sunday night, we're knocking out another ballpark, Commerica Park. I can't wait to see the Tigers play the Indians, and go to the game with my whole family. I haven't done that since I was little and we went with my Grandpa Johnson.
4) We're planning on heading back home around 3 on Monday. I've got to be back in Milwaukee for a sleep study for work Monday night. (I'm going to be in-servicing the nursing staff about sleep disorders, and sleep studies so one of the places we sent patients offered to do a free one so that I could explain from experience and pictures rather than blah blah story telling).

I'm looking forward to the weekend. Hoping that it's restful and somewhat recharges my batteries a bit. We'll see how it goes. I hope that everyone has a restful and family filled Memorial Day weekend. I promise to post more frequently. :)

The new and improved...

Ryan Young!!!

Ryan got the packing taken out of his nose today and it went really well. I was pretty shocked by the amount of packing that they fit in his nose, it was unbelievable! He's doing much better now, and hasn't taken anything more than Ibuprofen today.

I included a couple of pictures of the baseball game from Saturday as well. The top one is Ari chowing down a hotdog, and of course, my overly drugged up husband who probably shouldn't have ventured out to the game!

a little secret

I've learned something this week. Perhaps it comes with age, perhaps with wisdom, or perhaps through some great revelation. I think that most likely the case is that it comes from reading a passage in Exodus where the Lord tells Moses not to cut or dress up his stones that are used for the altar, because if he did, it would make the altar detestable. After reading this I've realized I have a bad habit and that as of recently it's facilitated by bloggerland!

Please allow me to explain. I was sitting at work the other day and a couple fo the women were talking about the latest American Idol episode. Now, I've only seen two episodes of American Idol this season, and both of them were in the beginning, so if all truth be told, I have NO idea what's going on in the show. However, these women were talking and they were giving their takes on the show and I chipped in my thoughts (compliments of Dave's blog) "I heard that Blake sung really well last night". To which these women agreed, and it started a whole new conversation for me to listen to. I had NO idea what I was talking about, just added my feedback from my Brother-in-law's blog.

A couple of days before I was sitting around with the Young Family and they asked me what I thought of Detroit's draft pick. Now, I knew that Detroit had picked another wide receiver, and I knew that we ALWAYS pick wide receivers. However, I had no real opinions of the matter other than I thought that they should have tried to get a good quaterback instead. Alas, Bloggerland made me a much more intelligible critic on the whole subject as my friend Cassie had commented that "well, at least they picked a real first rounder who is worth the money that they will pay for him, instead of picking a guy way too early in the draft so that they're stuck paying him a lot of dough and getting less effort because the player can sit back because he was picked early on in the draft". Okay, so I understood what she was saying, but had no idea that is what Detroit usually did. Regardless, I offered "my" opinion, which was of course my thoughts mixed with Cassie's commentary and it was received well. People bought it, and began their own Detroit picks guys too early that shouldn't be picked early blah blah talk and the attention was off of me and I looked smart.

Why do I do that? Is it to seem smart when I'm actually not. Is it to make people think that I'm a better person, or more "sportsy" or more "pop-culture educated", because in all honest I'm not. I like sports, but I don't like to watch Sportscenter and listen to radio commentaries, partially because I don't have time, and the other part because I don't care to. I'm also not pop-culture savvy at all. I have no idea who prominent actors/actresses names are unless they've been SUPER popular for a SUPER long time, ie: Kathryn Zada Jones--don't know who she is, but I've heard the name. It's really just not stuff I'm interested in, so why do I act like it? I don't know.

So, in light of this, I've made a pledge. My pledge is to not use other peoples' commentaries as if they're my own unless coupled with a disclaimer, and also I'm pledge not to try to be more sportsy or pop cultured than I really am. It shouldn't be hard because I get to just be myself, but it'll be interesting to see how the follow through goes.

All this brings me to the picture above, these are the Milwaukee Brewer's Racing Sausages (Klement's Racing Sausages), and at every game everyone choses a Sausage to win the race. There's no stategy, no hidden info that'd help you win the race, it's just guessing based on your preferences and likes..no ESPN involved. So I'm going to stick to my guns and vote for Chorizo EVERY time! Not because he has a great record, because, he doesn't in fact he has the worst record of all, but rather because I like him and I can stick with that decision!

Sorry for the delay...

It has been a really busy last couple of weeks, Ryan and I took a trip to Holland to visit the family and then he had surgery yesterday to fix his broken nose. The trip to Holland was great! My mom made an incredible head-board for Ryan but unfortunately I didn't get to take it hope because we don't have room in the jeep to fit it. We're working on figuring something out though. It's AWESOME!

Ryan also had his nose fixed on Friday, and things went really well, but he's not feeling great. He says that he's not in pain, but that it's just really uncomfortable because they shoved some gauze into his nose that can't come out until Monday. The stuff in the picture above is extra gauze to catch any of the drippage. He reminds me of the guy from Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer old cartoon, you know, the snow man with the glasses and cane?

Lastly, our mourning dove friends have made their nest right outside the window. They've been faithfully and QUIETLY sitting on their eggs for the past week. I think that there was a hawk that gave them a bit of a scare a couple of weeks ago, and they haven't really moved much from the next since. It'll be cool to see the eggs hatch, but I'm not looking forward to the noise returning after that. More pictures of them to follow.
